Lemon myrtle is a flowering tree (angiosperm) native
to Australia that belongs to the family Myrtaceae, the
same family well-known eucalyptus trees belong.
The tree can grow over 5 meters tall. Its evergreen
leaves are deep green in colour, and it bears milky-
white small, lovely flowers from spring to summer.
It came to be called "lemon" myrtle, because
crushed leaf releases a strong lemony scent. Also,
because lemon myrtle is resistant to most diseases
and predation by pest insects, it can be cultivated
without the use of pesticides and other chemical agents.
Furthermore, residues from distillation and extraction
of essential oil can be repurposed for personal care
products or recycled for conditioning the soil for
cultivating the trees. Indeed, lemon myrtle is a truly
environmentally friendly plant that enables zero-waste
operation from its cultivation to product manufacturing.
